Stars Room
Our ‘STARS’ are always full of energy as the children begin their first steps to mainstream education. This is where children are preparing to go to school Nursery or Reception class at big school.
There are opportunities to learn at every turn, including early years reading and maths skills, mark-making, imaginative play, and ICT, which are reinforced through what we call ‘purposeful play’. Activities and play experiences are planned to ensure each child is challenged and given the chance to learn and develop on an individual basis, whilst having lots of fun in the process of course! The children are encouraged to contribute to the running of the Pre-School Room and help by laying the tables for lunch, watering the plants, or tidying up after themselves.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum
At this point, we start to introduce a little more structure to the day – the team in the Pre-School room continue to work with the children towards the basic requirements of the EYFS curriculum (which your child’s school will continue to follow until they finish Reception class)
STARS pre-school room is led by an Early Years Teacher
The Stars Pre-School Room is led by a degree qualified Early Years Teacher, supported by NVQ Level 3 Nursery Practitioners. With fantastic knowledge of all elements of the EYFS Curriculum, the Stars Pre-School teacher plans rich and engaging group and individual activities, as well as ensuring that each learning area in the Pre-School room is full of fantastic resources, intentionally placed to captivate the children in purposeful play.
High Staff Ratios = Individual Attention
Pre-School maintains adult : children ratios of 1:8 (we are proud to say this is better than in a School Nursery class which is 1:13). This means that at Happy Little Sunbeams Day Nursery your little ones can really benefit from all the individual care and attention they need before moving onto school.
Transition to Primary School
The teacher’s aim in Stars Pre-School is to instill and encourage self-confidence and a real enjoyment of learning so when they finally fly from the sunbeams nest, they are self-assured and raring to go. Practitioners work closely with all schools to ensure that strong communication ensures a smooth transition.
Happy Little Sunbeams mostly attracts families from inside the local school’s catchment areas – the children in the Stars Pre-School room are often with the same children who will go on to be in their class at school.
All parents and close family members of Stars Pre-School children leaving for school are invited to our fantastic Summer Leaver’s Party. There’s usually a few tears shed by all at this point!
